Ex libris

Why doesn't anybody use bookplates anymore? I mean, I realize that it's perfectly fine to write your name in the front cover of a book, and call it good. But isn't it so much cooler to have something pretty and personalized to paste into the cover? There's something beautiful and exotic about the words ex libris. And any opportunity to use stationery is a good opportunity, I say. I found this website devoted to the bookplates of famous people, because apparently famous people used to have bookplates. So many devil-related ones! What are they trying to imply, here?

Anyway: cool. Bookplates.

My mom loves bookplates, she got me some when I was a kid. If you want bookplates, just mention it to her, and sit back and wait for the deluge.

Hmmm. I'll have to make a casual mention. :)

I like bookplates too and doodle them for fun, you can see a few here

pay no attention please that I've misspelled "libris" in many of them, I dunno, some sort of mental breakdown there that I'm ignoring

Cin,

Those are amazing! You should absolutely have them printed. My favorite, I think, is the "bookworm" one, but I really like the swans as well. All of them are lovely, though.

Beautiful.

Bookplates aren't cool anymore 'cause that makes the book harder to sell at a garage sale. That's my thought, anyway. (Ben)

My mom's really into bookplates too, so I used them when I was young. I never could get them in the book straight and without wrinkles, though. Annoying. Then, I decided it was cooler to sign the book itself. Simpler, more Zen somehow. Re Ben's comment, I like having books with other people's names in them, but maybe that's just me.

No, me too. I like having used books that are a little marked up. And having a cool bookplate with someone's actual name would definitely get it bonus points with me.
