Super Benriner!

Today I became the proud owner of a mandoline--the kitchen gadget, not the bluegrass instrument. A coworker offered me hers, since she never uses it, and so I arrived at work this morning to find this on my chair:

I...don't really know what's going on in this picture. Is that woman flashing a gang sign at me? But she looks so nice! And she assures me that dried cut radishes also OK, and that sharpness of the cutter makes my cooking chore enjoyable. So I guess I trust her? I don't know. (Also, it's been a big week for me and kitchen gadgets. I bought a blender/food-processor last weekend, and OH, THE SOUP I HAVE MADE. And hummus. Did you know you can substitute peanut butter for tahini in hummus? And it's not peanuty at all. What a relief.)

In other news, I'm sick. Ugh.

I think she is showing that she did not cut off her finger.

Or in bad translation, "It cut sharply so fingers stay well."

Hee. I think you might be right. "All five! Still here!"

Let me know how that works out for you. We got one awhile ago (though without the exciting Japanese-ness) and it didn't work at all. We were mystified - was it us? the device?

Glad the pb worked out!

Ah, Liz, fantastic! One of my favorite things about Japanese stuff is the self-recommendations of the products to the users, sometimes through a third party female model.

I would be interested to know more about your soups. I don't have a food processor at this point, but I might be tempted to get one if I had a good reason.

Stephanie,

Well, so far it's been all about tomato-chickpea with rosemary, which makes enough for an ARMY, but I have grand plans for Julia Child's original potato-leek soup for tonight. YUM. As Julia says, it is simplicity itself! Plus I have a bunch of potatoes and leeks lying around.

Oh, I LOVE potatoes and leeks! I have a fantastic recipe for a potato leek soup, and you make me want to find time for that. Hmm...

Thanks for the other link! I'm going to have to print that out and use it before it warms up too much more.
